Multiple-entry Scheme Resumes for Shenzhen Residents
The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) Government has announced the resumption of the multiple-entry Individual Visit Scheme (IVS) for permanent residents of Shenzhen. This convenient scheme allows residents of certain mainland Chinese cities, including Shenzhen, to visit Hong Kong and Macau multiple times on a single visa within a specified period, making travel more accessible and hassle-free.
Currently, Shenzhen permanent residents visiting Hong Kong under the IVS are limited to one trip per week. The revised scheme will remove these restrictions, granting eligible individuals multiple entries. According to official statistics, over 10 million Shenzhen residents will benefit from the scheme.
Economic Boost for Key Sectors
With the high number of expected visitors, the expansion of the multiple-entry scheme is anticipated to significantly boost Hong Kong’s tourism, retail, catering, and related industries, paving the way for a more prosperous future.
Secretary for Culture, Sports & Tourism Kevin Yeung emphasized the importance of IVS visitors to Hong Kong’s economy, stating, “IVS visitors are significant driving forces for the development of tourism-related industries in Hong Kong.”
The Tourism Board is also strengthening promotional efforts in Shenzhen to attract more visitors. It’s been leveraging online platforms to maximize reach.
Efforts Made for the Smooth Implementation
Chief Secretary Chan Kwok-ki recently chaired an interdepartmental meeting to coordinate preparations for the scheme’s implementation. As such, the government has implemented measures to simplify operations at border control points, improve tourist facilities, and enhance public transport networks.
Chief Executive John Lee thanked the central government for supporting Hong Kong’s proposals and accelerating the scheme’s rollout. In his Policy Address, Mr Lee advocated for enhancing travel arrangements for mainland residents, including reviving the multiple-entry scheme. His efforts and the support of relevant ministries have helped with the swift implementation of this initiative.
One for the Development of the Economy
The new arrangements are expected to stimulate various industries in Hong Kong. In particular, it will help tourism, which will have spillover effects in other sectors.
