Hong Kong has secured its position as the third-ranked global financial centre, according to the latest Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI 38). The city continues to lead the Asia-Pacific region, thanks to its robust financial infrastructure and strategic advantages.
Significance of the GFCI 38 Rankings
The global financial ranking, GFCI 38, assesses the competitiveness of 120 financial centres worldwide, evaluating factors such as business environment, infrastructure, human capital, and financial sector development. Hong Kong’s overall rating increased by four points to 764, narrowing the gap with New York and London, which hold the top two positions.
A significant achievement for Hong Kong in this report is its rise to the top of the global fintech rankings. This advancement is the result of the city’s commitment to technological innovation and the development of a digital financial ecosystem.
Sectoral Strengths and Asset Management Growth
Hong Kong’s financial services sector demonstrates comprehensive strength across various domains. The city ranks first globally in fintech offerings, business environment, infrastructure, and reputation. Additionally, it holds second place in human capital and third in financial sector development.
Similarly, according to the report, the asset and wealth management sector in Hong Kong continues to expand, with assets under management totalling $35.1 trillion by the end of the previous year. This represents a 13% annual growth, a result of the increasing confidence of both Mainland and overseas investors in the Hong Kong market.

Hong Kong’s unique position as a “super connector” between Mainland China and the global financial community enhances its role in facilitating cross-border investments and financial services. The “one country, two systems” framework provides a stable and predictable environment, further solidifying Hong Kong’s status as a leading international financial centre.
